Best seats at Utilita Arena Birmingham: floor, blocks and tiers
By The MyCritik editorial team · information checked on 12 October 2026
Utilita Arena Birmingham, the former NIA, is a classic indoor arena: a large arena floor, used as a standing area or filled with seats depending on the show, surrounded by tiers of seated blocks. With a capacity of up to around 15,800 according to Wikipedia, it is one of the largest indoor venues in the Midlands. The best seat depends on what you want from the night: the floor for proximity and atmosphere, a raised block facing the stage to take in the whole production.
Seating plans change a lot from one show to the next (end stage, reduced capacity, all-seated or standing floor): always check the plan shown by your ticket seller when you buy.
How the arena is laid out
The arena publishes separate floor plans for the Arena Floor Level, the Concourse Level and the hospitality levels 2 and 3. In practice, you will find:
- the arena floor, standing (general admission) or seated depending on the show;
- the seated blocks, numbered and raked around the floor, reached from the concourses;
- hospitality areas and suites on the upper levels, sold as premium packages.
Ticket types depend on the event and may include general admission standing, seated or VIP tickets. The arena's FAQs state that restricted-view seats are marked at the time of booking: read the details carefully before you pay.
The best seats for your evening
To be close to the artist
The standing floor, if there is one. Doors open at the time shown on your ticket and in the pre-event email: arrive early if you want to be near the front. On an all-seated floor, the front rows in the centre are the closest you can get.
To see the whole show
A seated block facing the stage, at mid-height. Arena tours rely heavily on lighting, screens and staging, and a little height lets you take it all in without heads in front of you.
For the best sound
Stay as close as possible to the axis of the stage. On the floor, the area just in front of the sound desk is the classic spot for a balanced mix. In the tiers, blocks facing the stage are generally better than those at the extreme sides.
With children
A seated ticket, ideally on an aisle. The arena's rules are clear: under-14s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over and should not be in the standing area, where staff may reseat them. The arena advises against bringing under-5s to shows other than children's shows, because of sound levels.
Seats to think twice about
- Blocks at the extreme sides, close to the stage, when it is at one end of the arena: the angle is steep, and part of the staging or screens may be out of sight.
- Seats marked as restricted view at booking.
- The back of the standing floor if you are not tall: the floor is flat.
Accessible seating
The arena sells accessible tickets online for all events, subject to availability: choose the "Accessible Tickets" option on the booking page. On AXS, the arena's ticketing partner for accessible bookings, a Nimbus Access Card lets you unlock seats suited to your needs, and companion tickets can be booked where available. The most direct level route into the building is the boardwalk to Entrance E.
A radio-frequency hearing system covers the whole arena bowl: ask a steward or security officer for a free receiver pack on arrival. Accessible toilets are on the concourses, including one on level 1 opposite Block 2, according to ATG Tickets. British Sign Language interpretation can be requested at least eight weeks in advance, subject to availability.
Practical tips
- No re-admission: once your ticket is scanned, you cannot leave and come back in.
- All bags are searched, and bags that do not meet the arena's bag policy are refused. Lockers can be booked in advance from your event page.
- Seated audience members may stand during the show, but standing on seats or in the aisles is not allowed.
