Frequently asked questions

Where can I read musical reviews before booking?

On the show’s page on MyCritik, which gathers reviews from audiences at past performances along with the average rating. The ratings for each criterion (singing, dancing, staging, orchestra and sound) show the strengths and weaknesses. The venue page completes the picture: comfort, view, access.

Musical or opera: which should I start with?

A musical usually alternates songs, spoken dialogue and dance, often in a more accessible style; opera is almost entirely sung, with an orchestra and unamplified operatic voices. Both can make a great first outing. Browse the opera reviews to compare.

Is a musical suitable for children?

It depends on the show: some are clearly aimed at families, while others deal with more adult themes or run too long for a young child. Check the age recommended by the production and read reviews from parents. Our family show reviews can also help.

Why do reviews vary from one city to another during a tour?

The company, the sound and the stage change from venue to venue, and some roles may be played by understudies. As each review is linked to a specific performance, you can read the ones for the city and period that concern you.

Can producers buy positive reviews?

No. No consideration is offered in exchange for a review on MyCritik, and reviews are neither bought nor commissioned by producers, artists or venues. A professional who rates their own show risks having the review removed, as set out in the review policy.
