Frequently asked questions

Where can I read reviews of a ballet or dance show?

On the show or company page on MyCritik, with the average rating and the reviews left by audiences at past performances. The ratings for each criterion (technique, choreography, music, stage design) show what stayed with the audience.

Do I need to know about dance to enjoy a show?

No. Many shows are first and foremost a visual and musical experience. Reading other audience members’ reviews helps you find out whether a piece is narrative, abstract or experimental, and choose accordingly.

Where should I sit for a dance show?

For dance, a slightly raised seat facing the stage often lets you better appreciate the ensemble work and the patterns on stage, while the front rows bring you close to the dancers. It all depends on the venue: check the view rating given by the audience.

Can I post photos of a dance show?

Yes, members can post photos on the date’s page from the time the doors open; they are moderated according to the same principles as reviews. Videos are not accepted. During the performance, follow the venue’s rules: many do not allow photography, and flash can distract the dancers.

Are negative reviews published?

Yes. A review is never removed simply because it is negative, as long as it complies with the review policy: no insults, no personal attacks, and comments related to the performance. A well-argued critical review is often the most useful.
