Frequently asked questions

Where can I find theatre reviews written by the audience?

On MyCritik, every play has its own page with audience reviews and an average rating out of 5. Unlike press reviews, these come from people who paid for their seats and describe their evening. Reviews also cover the theatre itself: seat comfort, view, access.

How do I review a play?

Go to the write a review page, find the play and the date you saw it, then give it a rating from 1 to 5. The text and the ratings for each criterion are optional. A review can be posted as soon as the performance has started, and you can edit or delete it afterwards.

Why does the same play get different ratings on different dates?

Live performance is never the same twice: an understudy in a role, a different venue on tour, a more or less responsive audience. As reviews are attached to each performance, you can spot these variations. The play’s rating remains the average of all published reviews.

Can a theatre have a negative review removed?

No. A review is never removed simply because it is negative. It may be removed if it breaches the review policy: insulting or defamatory remarks, content unrelated to the performance, or a conflict of interest, such as a venue or a company rating its own show.

Where should I sit in a theatre for the best view?

It depends on the venue and the staging: in a traditional proscenium-arch theatre, a central seat in the circle can give a better overall view than a stalls seat too close and off to the side. The “View” criterion in reviews gives you an idea for each theatre.
