Róisín Dubh, Monroe’s, Leisureland: upcoming gigs in Galway and what the audience thought of them.
Galway’s gig scene is concentrated on Dominick Street, where two pubs have been booking bands for years. For bigger concerts, Leisureland, in Salthill, has an events centre that seats 1,010, or 1,200 standing.
The venues that come up most often in the listings:
- the Róisín Dubh, on Dominick Street, a music and comedy venue that has hosted acts from Christy Moore to Dinosaur Jr;
- Monroe’s, on Dominick Street Upper, a bar and restaurant with live music most nights, from touring bands to folk musicians and tribute acts;
- Leisureland, in Salthill, for bigger concerts and family shows;
- the Town Hall Theatre, on Courthouse Square, a 400-seat theatre that also programmes concerts.
Every July, the Galway International Arts Festival adds two weeks of music, theatre and street spectacle, with headline concerts in its Big Top on the university campus.
This page lists upcoming concerts in Galway with the artist’s average rating and reviews from earlier dates of the tour. Venue criteria (comfort, view, access) are rated separately, which helps when you are choosing between a standing gig on Dominick Street and a seat at Leisureland.
