M&S Bank Arena, the Philharmonic, the Cavern: upcoming gigs in Liverpool and honest reviews from the crowd.
Liverpool’s music heritage needs little introduction: the Beatles started out at the Cavern Club on Mathew Street, which still puts on live music every day, and the city was named a UNESCO City of Music in 2015. Its biggest concerts now take place at the M&S Bank Arena, on the waterfront at Kings Dock. Liverpool Lime Street is about a 20-minute walk away; James Street station, on Merseyrail’s Wirral Line, is a little closer.
Other venues on the circuit:
- Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, on Hope Street, home of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, which also hosts rock, pop, folk and comedy;
- the Olympia, on West Derby Road, just north-east of the centre, an Edwardian variety theatre now used for gigs and boxing;
- the O2 Academy Liverpool, on Hotham Street near Lime Street station, with two rooms for touring bands.
This page lists upcoming concerts in Liverpool with the artist’s average rating and reviews from earlier dates of the tour. Venue criteria are rated separately, so you can compare the arena with the Philharmonic on sound, comfort and view. For theatre and comedy as well, see what’s on in Liverpool.

Frequently asked questions
What are the main concert venues in Liverpool?
The M&S Bank Arena on the waterfront hosts the largest indoor tours. Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, the Olympia and the O2 Academy take mid-sized gigs, and the Cavern Club has live music every day.
How do I get to the M&S Bank Arena Liverpool?
From Liverpool Lime Street, the walk takes about 20 minutes, following the signs to the waterfront. You can also take Merseyrail to James Street and walk from there, or a bus to Liverpool ONE bus station, a few minutes from the arena.
Is the M&S Bank Arena the same as the Echo Arena?
Yes. The waterfront arena opened as the Echo Arena and was renamed the M&S Bank Arena in 2019 under a naming-rights deal. It is part of the same complex as the ACC Liverpool conference centre.
Can you still see live music at the Cavern Club?
Yes. The Cavern Club on Mathew Street, a rebuilt version of the original cellar, has live music daily, from Beatles tribute acts to touring bands.
