Utilita Arena, O2 City Hall, NX, the Glasshouse: upcoming gigs on Tyneside and what the crowd made of them.
Newcastle’s largest indoor venue is the Utilita Arena Newcastle, on Arena Way near the River Tyne. It is a short walk from Newcastle Central Station, which is served by trains, the Tyne and Wear Metro and local buses, so most fans leave the car at home.
For mid-sized gigs, the city has a cluster of venues close to the centre:
- O2 City Hall Newcastle, on Northumberland Road, a listed concert hall that opened in 1928;
- NX Newcastle, on Westgate Road, the former O2 Academy, reopened under its new name in 2022;
- the Glasshouse International Centre for Music, across the river on Gateshead Quays, home of the Royal Northern Sinfonia and still known to many as Sage Gateshead.
This page lists upcoming concerts in Newcastle with the artist’s average rating and reviews from earlier dates of the tour. Venue criteria such as sound, comfort and view are rated separately, so you can see how the arena compares with a seated hall. For theatre and comedy as well, see what’s on in Newcastle.

Frequently asked questions
What are the main concert venues in Newcastle?
The Utilita Arena Newcastle hosts the biggest tours. O2 City Hall Newcastle and NX Newcastle take mid-sized gigs, and the Glasshouse in Gateshead, just across the Tyne, programmes classical, folk, jazz and contemporary concerts.
How do I get to the Utilita Arena Newcastle?
The arena is a few minutes’ walk from Newcastle Central Station, where trains, the Metro and many buses stop. Eldon Square and Haymarket bus stations are about a ten-minute walk away.
Is the O2 Academy Newcastle still open?
The building on Westgate Road is now run by Electric Group and has been called NX Newcastle since it reopened in 2022. If an older ticket or listing says O2 Academy Newcastle, it refers to the same venue.
Is the Glasshouse the same as Sage Gateshead?
Yes. The music centre on Gateshead Quays was renamed the Glasshouse International Centre for Music in 2023. It is in Gateshead, on the south bank of the Tyne, a short walk across the bridges from Newcastle’s Quayside.
