Frequently asked questions

Where can I read show reviews before booking?

On MyCritik, the page for each show, artist and venue gathers audience reviews with an average rating out of 5. Reviews are linked to a specific performance, so you can read the most recent ones first. Choose your town or city on this page to see the shows on near you.

How can I tell whether show reviews can be trusted?

Be wary of reviews that all look the same, lack detail or are posted in bursts; favour those that describe the evening precisely. On MyCritik, no review is bought or commissioned, but the author’s attendance is not checked against a ticket, as stated in the review policy.

Why can’t I review a show before the performance?

Because a review should describe a real experience: on MyCritik, it can only be posted once the performance has started, and never for a cancelled date. You can, however, say that you plan to go, then rate the show on your way out.

How do I write a useful show review?

Give your rating, then explain in a few sentences what you liked or didn’t, who you would recommend it to and the conditions in which you saw it (seat, atmosphere). Avoid giving away the ending or any surprises.

What does the “Other shows” category cover?

It covers performances that don’t clearly fall under concerts, theatre, comedy, musicals, opera, classical music, dance, circus and magic, or family shows. The rating criteria are more general here: quality of the show, staging, originality.
