Best seats at Utilita Arena Cardiff: floor, tiers and balconies
By The MyCritik editorial team · information checked on 12 October 2026
Utilita Arena Cardiff is a compact arena by UK standards: according to Wikipedia, it holds around 5,000 people seated or 7,500 with a standing floor. That is good news for your view: even the furthest seats are much closer to the stage than in the country's largest arenas. The best seat still depends on what you want from the night: the floor for proximity and atmosphere, a raised seat facing the stage to see the whole production.
The arena uses different plans for seated, seated and standing, and standing shows. Always check the plan for your show before you buy: the arena's ticket links show whether a show is seated, standing or both.
How the arena is laid out
From the arena's seating and accessibility pages, the house is organised as follows:
- the ground floor, used as a standing floor or for flat-floor seating, depending on the show;
- tiered seating around the floor, which is not step-free;
- balconies on the upper levels: the North, South and West Balconies on level 1 and Balcony 2 on level 2, with seats without armrests.
There are two main entrances at the front: the Box Office Entrance (front left, opposite the Admiral Building) and the South Entrance (on the right, opposite The Citrus Hotel). Stairs next to each entrance lead to the bars and toilets on the first and second floors.
The best seats for your evening
To be close to the artist
The standing floor, if there is one. Doors usually open about an hour before the show, according to the arena: arrive early if you want to be near the front. On a seated floor, the front rows in the centre are the closest you can get.
To see the whole show
A seat in the tiers facing the stage, at mid-height. The arena is small enough that the view remains close, and a little height means you are not looking over a crowd of heads.
For the best sound
Stay close to the axis of the stage. On the floor, the area just in front of the sound desk is the classic spot for a balanced mix.
With children
A seated ticket, ideally on an aisle. Children aged 14 or under must be accompanied by an adult over 18, and some events have additional age restrictions: check the details of your show.
Seats to think twice about
- Seats at the extreme sides, close to the stage: the angle can hide part of the staging or screens.
- The back of the standing floor if you are not tall: the floor is flat.
- Balcony seats if you need armrests: the arena states that balcony seating has none.
Accessible seating
The arena's Live Access areas are on level 1 and level 2, with chairs that the Live Access team can move. Flat-floor seating on the ground floor is step-free; tiered seating is not, and wheelchair users would need to transfer to an arena seat. On sold-out standing shows, large mobility aids are not permitted on the standing floor.
Accessible tickets are booked online through Ticketmaster, from the show page on the arena's website, by choosing an accessible ticket and then a seat. Proof of disability must be sent to Ticketmaster before the event. Companion tickets, very limited, must be added at the same time as the access ticket. If Live Access seating is sold out, the box office can put you on a waiting list. On the night, Live Access visitors have a dedicated step-free queue, with check-in in the North Entrance corner, next to the lifts. A radio-frequency hearing system is available from the reception desk, subject to a refundable deposit.
Practical tips
- No re-entry: once inside, you cannot leave and come back.
- One small bag per person, no larger than A4, is allowed; bags are checked on arrival.
- The arena is cashless, and shows end at 11pm at the latest.
