Parking at the Grand Opera House Belfast - car parks, on-street
By The MyCritik editorial team · information checked on 15 October 2026 · 3 min read
The Grand Opera House has no car park of its own, but it sits in the middle of the city's busiest parking patch. Two multi-storeys are within a few minutes' walk, and on-street spaces go free in the evening. Your real enemy is the traffic: the theatre itself warns of roadworks and closures around Great Victoria Street.

The two multi-storeys
- Behind the Europa Hotel: the theatre's first suggestion, reached from Sandy Row and Hope Street. Open until 1am Monday to Saturday and 11pm on Sunday, so a Sunday show that runs long is worth watching. The council car park on Hope Street North has an electric car charging point.
- Value Car Parks, Grosvenor Road: a 12-level multi-storey with 575 spaces, open 6.45am to 1am every day according to the theatre. Its evening rate, for entry after 5pm and exit by 1am, is listed at £6 by Visit Belfast and £7 by Parkopedia. Check the sign on the way in.
The Days Hotel nearby also offers secure parking, according to the theatre.
On-street and council parking
There are a few on-street spaces on Great Victoria Street itself. The theatre says they are free after 6.30pm and all day Sunday; Visit Belfast says on-street charges stop at 6pm. Go by the sign on the meter.
Belfast City Council's charged car parks are generally free in the evenings and on Sundays too, with two exceptions: Smithfield and Bankmore Street, which charge outside normal hours.
Our advice for an evening show: arrive early, grab a meter space or the Europa multi-storey, then walk round to dinner. Our where to eat near the Grand Opera House guide has places within a few minutes of the doors.
Blue Badge holders
The Grand Opera House does not list dedicated disabled parking, so plan with the Northern Ireland Blue Badge rules:
- On-street pay and display: free with no time limit, unless a local order says otherwise.
- Yellow lines: up to three hours if safe, but not within 15 metres of a junction or where loading restrictions apply.
- Council car parks: you can use the disabled bays, but the badge does not make a charged car park free.
- Private car parks: the operator decides. Do not assume it is free.
Inside, the foyer has automated doors and a step-free route to the Stalls. Check which seats suit you in best seats at the Grand Opera House, and tell the box office about wheelchair spaces when you book.
Leaving the car at home
Grand Central, the main train and bus station, is 0.2 miles away, so the train often beats a city-centre multi-storey. Routes are in getting to the Grand Opera House.
